Guilt

Colossians 2:13-14 - You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross.

A lot of us carry the heavy load of guilt with us everyday. But is it guilt or shame? Guilt is not a negative emotion and is actually good for us. Guilt is our body recognizing that we have done something wrong. We must admit wrong doing before God can forgive us of the transgression. How can God forgive us of a sin that we won't take responsibility for? Acknowledging our wrongs is not approving of them, yet simply laying them down at the foot of the cross for our Savior to pardon. 2 Corinthians 5:17 - This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

But just as healthy and necessary as guilt is for the process of salvation, so is the destructive power of it's opposite emotion shame. Shame is a very unhealthy emotion and is like a cancer to your soul. Shame has no place in our lives. Where guilt admits that we have made a mistake, shame tells us that WE are the mistake. We must let go of the shame and remember that our mistakes, failures and shortcomings were all nailed to the cross. The penalty for our sin has already been paid by Christ Jesus. Let go of your shame and embrace your "Guilt" and let it lead you to the foot of the cross.
