Resentment

1 Peter 3:8-9 - To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit; not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead; for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

I've said it before but harboring unforgiveness and resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Resentment can become addictive. The chief emotion found with resentment is anger. When we become angry, our heart begins to race, our blood boils and we see an increase in energy. But just like any other addictive substance, we begin to "need" more and higher doses. This is when anger changes over from an emotion, to the driving force in our lives. When we are bent on revenge, we move further and further away from the ability to forgive. Because when we let go of that anger, we lose that energy "high".

Romans 14:10 - But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. We are so quick to point out the flaws of others but blind to the shortcomings in our own lives. We should all strive to be more Christ-like with our emotions. We need to treat others with the same kindness, forgiveness and love that Christ has shown us.

Hatred is the rabid dog that turns on it's owner. Revenge is the raging fire that consumes the arsonist. Bitterness is the trap that snares the hunter. And mercy is the CHOICE that can set them all free. So today, make an increased effort to let God be God and release your ... "Resentment".
